.Shalom Kaplan-Eilati was born 1933 in Kaunas
His father,Yisrael Kaplan' was an historian, author and teacher. His mother Lea, a nurse and poet. Being jailed in the ghetto together with his sister Yehudit, His father was deported to ghetto Riga and his mother smuggled his sister and him out ,with the help of three Lithuanian women that worked in the "Filzfabrik" Where she was a forced labourer. Shalom's father survived and they both could make their way to Israel. Shalom says that he owes his life to six Lithuanians that risked their lives. Four of them have already got recognition as righteous among the nations. He is still looking for the family of o woman that worked during the Nazi occupation in the "Filzfabrik". Shalom thinks they could have been called Irena and Orentas. They lived in Eigulu 34, Zaliankalnis, in Kaunas . This very courageous couple has also adopted a girl from Belarus .One of those orphans that were left next to the train station in Kaunas.
