Albert Yoffe

Albert Joffe was born in the Daukšos gatve in Kaunas in 1932. He began studying to play the violin when he was 4 years old. As the family was deported to the ghetto, he continued studying the violin secretly. His teacher was Mrs. Kopelman, who also played in the ghetto orchestra. As the Nazis evacuated the ghetto the family hid in a so called “Melina” on the roof of Mildos gatve 3. Although the ghetto was bombed and burned, they miraculously survived. Albert left Lithuania in 1971 as the iron curtain rose for a little while. He started immediately playing at the Israeli broadcast orchestra. He lives in Jerusalem
